3. Learning Environment

I think it is incredibly important to create an atmosphere that is not only equipped for the best learning outcomes but also for the students. Something that I took into consideration this year was by creating new seating arrangements. The seating arrangements I felt played a huge effect on the learning environment. Something that I noticed in the beginning of the year is the placement of the desks. One of the most utilized materials used in the classroom are the smartboard and the whiteboard. My mentor teacher’s classroom is set up where both boards are on opposite sides of the classroom so when it came to the placement of the student’s desk it was critical that the students would have a clear view of both of the boards. I have students paired in twos and facing each other and they both had a side view of the board. I had also placed students accordingly, it is important to get to know my students. Knowing if some are chattier than others to place them on opposite ends. I had also paired students together where students may have a good influence on others who may need help paying attention or just need extra help. I tried my best to make a collaborative environment where students are able to communicate with one another while maintaining an effective learning environment where they can stay on task.
